After ending Bremond’s 49-game winning streak last season, the Milano Eagles defeated the Tigers again 25-22 in Bremond. The Eagles forced five fumbles and ran for 174 yards.
“We played pretty good offense,” said Chad Lagrone, Milano High School head football coach. “We were able to have some big plays.”
Bremond put the first points on the board halfway through the first quarter when senior running back Dalton Wilganowski scored from the one-yard line. Senior quarterback J.T. Anthony completed the two-point conversion to put the Tigers ahead 8-0.
The Eagles answered with a 73-yard bomb from senior quarterback Kathen Funburg to senior running back Christian Thurman. The Eagles also completed a two-point conversion on a Funburg pass to senior tight end Arthur Soto to tie the game 8-8.
At the beginning of the second half, Thurman scored on a 58-yard run. Milano was up 15-8, after an extra point from senior kicker Kevin Garcia.
Bremond got back in the game, when senior receiver Keke Paul recovered a goal line fumble in the end zone. The Tigers failed to complete their two-point conversion, trailing 15-14.
Less than two minutes later, the Eagles scored again on a 15-yard run from Fun-burg. Garcia made the extra point to put the Eagles ahead 22-14. Garcia made a 17-yard field goal four minutes later to improve their lead to 25-14.
Bremond scored once more when senior wide receiver Seth Kasowski caught on a nine-yard touchdown pass from Anthony. Kasowski also scored on the two-point conversion,
“Our defense did great,” said Lagrone. “We played well on that end.”
