Milano High School’s athletic director suspended two of their fall sports for two weeks after a student and Milano ISD employee tested positive for COVID-19.

“Those directly involved have been notified and are taking necessary precautions,” AD Wendy King said last week in a press release.

The volleyball and cross-country teams have suspended competition and practices for two weeks. Football will remain as scheduled.

Both activities are scheduled to resume Aug. 24 based on the most current information available. The health and safety of the students and staff are the first priority of MHS and will dictate how these situations are dealt with as they arise, she said.

“Thank you to everyone that has expressed concern and compassion for these families,” King said in her statement. “We will face the challenges of the upcoming school year together as a community of people who care for one another. Thank you and please stay safe.”

The MHS volleyball team is scheduled to face the Bosqueville Lady Bulldogs on Aug. 25 in Bosqueville upon their return.

With COVID-19 numbers being persistent in Milam County. It is imperative that everyone continues to adhere to safety guidelines. Please continue to wear your mask, wash your hands, and social distance as much as possible.
