Three Rockdale High School graduates were recently awarded the inaugural Purple and White Scholarships.

Frances King, Sharice Boyd, and Brajon Ayala were awarded $300 each to go towards their college education.

All three recipients were members of Rockdale High School’s class of 2018 and will be attending college in the fall.

King will head to Nacogdoches later this month to start classes at Stephen F. Austin State University.

Boyd will be attending McLennan Community College in Waco.

Ayala will be attending Austin Community College.

“Our goal is to give back to the community and keep the spirit of the purple and white alive,” said Odis Mack, a spokesman for the scholarship committee. “In this process, hopefully we will inspire additional groups, businesses, and individuals to do the same.”

Mack, Bob Roberson and Liz Galloway-McQuitter established the scholarship to give educational opportunities to area high school students.

“This scholarship was established and funded by Bob Roberson with contributions from his nephew,” Odis Mack,” said Galloway McQuitter.

Roberson is an Aycock High School graduate, and was salutatorian of the class of 1956.

Mack is a 1976 graduate of Rockdale High School and currently CEO of West Harris County Insurance Associates and Texas Truck and Cargo Insurance Company in Houston.

McQuitter is a former Women’s Professional Basketball League standout.

All are Rockdale Athletic Hall of Honor members.
