Rockdale football players and boosters tackled the kitchen to help raise over $6,000 for the Rockdale Tiger Booster Club last Saturday.

Senior athletes baked or bought marble, tres leches, chocolate Butterfinger, chocolate, white, hummingbird, Italian cream, strawberry, butter pecan, chocolate bundt and Oreo cakes to the event. There were also cupcakes and cheesecakes in the auction.

This year cakes were posted on the Rockdale Tiger Athletics Facebook page. Bidders scrolled through to find a player they wanted to support or a delicious cake that they couldn’t resist. If a person wanted the cake, they commented with their bids.

A $700 cheesecake with chocolate swirls made by Christian Briggs was the highest seller of the day.

The auction was unbelievable,” RHS Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Jacob Campsey said. “I never dreamed that it would turn out as well as it did. We didn’t have a cake that sold under $100. The community absolutely showed out and it was fun to watch all day.”

Winners of the cakes included; Heintze Limousine, NAPA Tire & Auto, Oriental Kitchen, Mike and Tiffany Whitsel, Classic Bank, Bland Construction, Viet Automotive, Bassler Energy Services, Mr. Gatti’s Pizza, Charming Blossoms Boutique, Scott’s Body Shop, Iguacio Rios, Rockdale Building, BB Construction, Dallas and Keari Spence, Intensity Urgent Care, Randy Morgan, Caffey Corner, Rockdale Federal Credit Union, Jason and Lacy Barcak, and Maxine Reyes.

Later in the day, the RHS boosters sold over 350 plates of fish, coleslaw and baked beans during the fish fry at the RHS Field House. Masked volunteers took plates out to people waiting in cars that snaked from the field house onto Murray Street and sold out in two hours.

“Thank you, Rockdale for an Amazing day!” Campsey wrote via Facebook. “You showed what a great community we have by buying our seniors’ cakes and lots of fish plates! We cannot thank you enough for your generosity and support.”

At the end of the night, a prize drawing was held. During the fish fry, $1 tickets were sold to earn a chance at winning an autographed football and volleyball or a blue glitter backpack.

Joe Cleveland won the football and Lin Perry won the backpack. No winner was announced for the volleyball.

On Monday afternoon, RHS Athletics held their 2020-2021 “Meet the Tigers.”

Due to COVID-19 precautions the meeting took place via Facebook on the RHS Athletics Page. Campsey posted an introductory video thanking everyone for attending the event and introduced coaches and their families.

Each fall sports team posted a video of students, who gave their name, position and grade level. Teams included freshman football, junior varsity football, varsity football, boy’s cross country, girl’s cross country, junior varsity volleyball, varsity volleyball, cheer and mascot, Golden Girls, band, and student athletic trainers.

“We’re super proud of all these kids and the work they’re putting in so far,” Campsey said. “We can’t wait to see what this year holds.
