Despite the ongoing droughts in many parts of U.S., lakes in the Texas Hill Country are good to go this summer according to the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife’s website.

Lake Austin

Water clear; 85 degrees; 0.55 feet low. Largemouth bass are good on watermelon red plastic worms, white spinners, brush hogs and flipping jigs along rock ledges, marinas and points. Sunfish are good on cut earthworms and crickets along vegetation edges, near boat docks, vegetation and rocks. Catfish are good with live bait, punch bait and chicken liver.

Lake Brownwood

Water lightly stained; 87 degrees; 0.20 feet low. Largemouth bass are good with flukes, Texas rigged plastic worms, crankbaits and brush hogs along grass lines, rocky shorelines, and flooded vegetation. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs in brush piles and near bridge pilings. White bass and hybrids are good on slabs, striper jigs and live bait along the main lake channels, humps and ridges. Look for birds diving over feeding schools of white bass. Catfish are good on chicken liver and nightcrawlers.

Lake Buchanan

Water lightly stained; 88 degrees; 1.37 feet low. Largemouth bass are good with football jigs, drop shots, medium diving crankbaits, brush hogs and bladed spinners. Striped bass are good along the river channel with live bait and swimbaits. White bass are good on slabs and jigging spoons on main lake points, flats and humps. Crappie are fair on minnows fishing docks, brush piles and timber. Channel catfish are fair on live bait and punch bait. Blue cats are fair on cut bait and live bait.

Canyon Lake

Water lightly stained; 85-90 degrees; 3.25 feet low. Striper fishing is very good along the river channel edge with live bait, top water (early) and swimbaits. White bass are good with live bait, spoons and slabs. Look for birds diving over feeding schools. Largemouth bass are good with diving crankbaits, jigs, swimbaits, wacky worms and bladed spinners. Smallmouth bass are good on plastic grubs and small crankbaits along rock ledges and rocky shorelines. Catfish are good with punch bait and live bait. Crappie are good with live minnows and jigs in the marinas, timber and brush piles.

Granger Lake

Water lightly stained; 87 degrees; 0.99 feet high. Black bass are good on crankbaits, drop shots and finesse jigs near rocky shorelines, brushy creeks and points. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs in brush piles. White bass are good on swimbaits, jigging spoons and slabs near main lake points, humps, ridges and flats. Catfish are good on earthworms, punch and cut bait. Yellow cats are fair with live bait.

Lake LBJ

Water lightly stained; 88 degrees; 0.89 feet low. Black bass are fair on ribbed worms, football jigs, bladed spinners and diving crankbaits worked near timber, main lake points and rock ledges. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs around brush piles, rock ledges and docks. White bass are good near main channels with live bait and slabs. Catfish are good on chicken liver, live bait and cut bait.

Medina Lake

Water lightly stained; 79 degrees; 38.33’ low. Black bass are fair moving deeper and deeper below 14 feet fishing worms, jigs and crankbaits. White bass are fair on spoons and small crankbait over steep drops and brush. Striped bass are slow. Catfish are fair on live bait, chicken livers, and blood baits.

Lake Travis

Water clear; 85 degrees; 14.81 feet low. Largemouth bass are good with top waters (early), flipping jigs,diving crankbaits and long plastic worms. White bass are good with slabs and swimbaits working main lake points, channel ledges and flats. Stripers action along the main river channel is good with live bait and swimbaits. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs near docks, brush piles and creeks. Catfish are good on chicken liver, live and cut baits.

Lake Waco

Water lightly stained; 88 degrees; 1.20 feet high. Large mouth bass are good on top waters, craws, bladed spinners and football jigs working the flooded banks, creek ledges and rocky shorelines. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs working bridge pilings and brush piles. Sunfish are good on cut earthworms, crappie bites and dough bait. Channel and blue catfish are good on punch and cut bait.

Lake Walter E. Long

Water lightly stained; 87 degrees. Largemouth bass are good on shaky head jigs, jerk baits, and tube baits near creeks, rocks and brushy coves. Hybrid stripers are good with live bait, large silver spoons and chartreuse swimbaits. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs near brush piles, creeks and timber. Catfish are good on shrimp, earthworms and live bait. Sunfish are good on small jigs, cut worms and shrimp pieces.
