Earlier this spring, Hearne coach Lewis Edmonson was named Class 2A’s “Boys Assistant Coach of the Year,” being one of eight high school assistant boys’ basketball coaches in the state of Texas to win the award this year.
Edmonson was instrumental to Hearne’s success this season, filling in for head coach Travis Williams when he was unable to coach and played a big part in pushing the Eagles to the third round of the playoffs. The success came after Hearne got off to a rocky start in district play with a record of 1-3 before battling for a playoff spot to win four of their final six games.
The Caldwell native coached in Rockdale from 2016-2021 and was a part of Jeff Miller’s coaching staff that won a state championship in 2017, the school’s first since 1976.
