Rockdale fans might see a familiar face if they look up at the press box on Friday night. But unlike before, instead of wearing blue-and-gold, former Tiger Preston Ehler will be at the game rocking black-and-gold on Friday night as a part of the Giddings coaching staff.
“This is my first official game as a coach,” Ehler said. “And it’s in Rockdale.
“It feels like a homecoming honestly. I’ve also never stepped foot on the new football field and I’m really hyped up about that.”
Ehler, who graduated from RHS in 2015, was an all-state defensive end on the 2014 team that made it to the state quarterfinals before losing to Cameron 44-25.
After his career at Rock-dale as a two-sport athlete, Ehler went on to Texas State where he graduated this past spring. During his studies, he interned under former Yoemen head coach Rick Rhoades at Gregory-Portland last football season and in the spring, Ehler student-taught at Hutto ISD.
Now at Giddings ISD, Ehler is an elementary P.E. teacher and is a defensive line coach for Wade Griffin, the head coach for the Buffaloes. Ehler also helps out with junior high football and said he will also coach junior high basketball and possibly baseball.
