GROESBECK GOATS 32, ROCKDALE TIGERS 21
Body

Homecoming did not roll out the red carpet for the Blue & Gold last week.

The Rockdale Tigers lost to Groesbeck 32-21. Rockdale has got to figure out the math of football.

“We had two drives that should have been two touchdowns,” said Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Hunter Hamrick. “We lost by touchdowns so there you go.”

That formula seemed to be Rockdale’s normal last year. Sooner or later the Tigers will learn and then look out these guys are going to be good.

Groesbeck scored seven in the first quarter and shut the Tigers out so at the end of one it was 7-0.

In the second quarter, Tiger sophomore running back Jeramiah Butler pushed the ball into the end zone from three yards out. Sophomore kicker Fernando Pacheco made the extra point kick and Rockdale was in the game 7-7.

Groesbeck then scored twice making it a 20-7 game.

Rockdale’s sophomore quarterback Greyson Williams threw a 69-yard strike to junior receiver De’Andre Stephens. Pacheco was good and the score at halftime was Groesbeck 20, Rockdale 14.

Both Groesbeck and Rockdale scored in the third quarter.

Running back Butler scored his second touchdown of the night from seven yards out. Pacheco was perfect on the night and the score going into the fourth quarter was Goats 26, Tigers 21.

The visiting Goats then scored in the fourth. Rockdale had lost seemingly any momentum they had and the final was 32-21.

“We have to take advantage of our drives,” Coach Hamrick said. “We are still challenged on the offensive line but we have made some positive gains. We are putting the pieces together as we prepare for district.”

Remember this is a young squad. Our quarterback is growing and doing what he is asked to do. We have a very good defensive coordinator along with other great Tiger coaches.

District outside of Franklin and Troy is wide open and the Tigers are in a position to make a run towards the playoffs and keep the bell for a second year.

COMING UP— The Tigers are off this week. Up next is Lit t le River- Academy. They travel to Rockdale on Friday, Oct. 11. Kick off will be at 7:30 p.m. The Bumb lebees are 0-5 and were slated to finish second in the district behind Franklin just ahead of Cameron. Academy just lost to Whitney 76-30.

(Sidenote: Cameron is 0-5 and just got shut out by Mexia 35-0. Mexia has a 2-3 record. Just saying.)

INJURIES— Roc kdale still has some injured starters: Za-Kobe Anderson and Stephen Goodrich.

STATS— Indi v i dual statistics in the game were: Jeramiah Butler, 17 carries, 84 yards and two touchdowns. Greyson Williams went 15 of 30 for 224 yards and a touchdown. De’Andre Stephens had 6 receptions, for 115 yards and a touchdown. Brody Willard had 10 tackles, while Erik Sheppard had six.
