Salado’s Mill Creek Golf Course was a good benchmark to test where the RHS boys’ golf team stood in District 19-3A, according to Coach Ethan Noel.
“Mill Creek is similar to the course we play for our 2nd round of district, so it was good to see some of those guys score well,” he said, about the Salado Invitation Tournament on Monday.
The boys placed fourth in team standings. Ross Loth shot 85, Jake Hasselbach and Brayden Burns shot 100, Ashton McEntarffer shot 125 and Ryan Luckey shot 126. Maddy Moody the lone player for the girls’ team shot a 125. Whitely Boyd has been out recovering from a root canal.
“We are mixing and matching to find the right number four and five players but when we do, this team could accomplish our goal of winning district,” he said. “We need to improve around the greens. Our chipping and putting has to be better throughout the round. Our scores should stay around or get better as we continue to play in more tournaments.”
Last Wednesday and Thursday, Rockdale hosted the annual tournament. The boys placed fourth. Ross Loth shot 85, Jake Hasselbach and Brayden Burns both shot 100, Ashton McEntarffer shot 125 and Ryan Luckey shot 126. The Lady Tigers’ Moody shot 125.
“These kids really work pretty hard out at the course. It can be a lonely sport and sometimes can get monotonous,” Noel said. “They do a good job of pushing each other to be better.” Their next tournament is Tuesday, March 10 at Colo-Vista Golf Course in Bastrop.
