Thorndale High School senior Michael Herzog has the top triple jump mark in the U.S. after making a height of 49-5 at the North Texas Jumps Showcase in Weatherford in late December.
“It feels pretty special to have the best jump in the nation right now,” Herzog said. “It really makes me feel confident that I can compete at the collegiate level.
“I think this jump also helps motivate me for the rest of the indoor season and is a good way to see that my training is paying off.”
The Bulldog who placed fourth in the triple jump at state as a freshmen before winning it all his sophomore season made the top jump in his indoor track debut.
“I felt good competing against some of the top talent,” Herzog said in an interview with Texas Mile Split. “It was nice to show that I fit in well them and it was a good start.”
The 2019 state champ committed to Duke earlier this school year, where he will continue his jumping career after graduation in May.
