Rockdale went into Friday night’s season finale at Caldwell without four starters including senior guards D’Erika Hurd and Miah Beckwith, sophomore post Julie Bartsch and junior post Karli Marburger, who hadn’t played since her team faced Caldwell on Jan. 12.
With those four starters missing, avenging the earlier loss to the Lady Hornets didn’t go as planned as CHS took the game 60-39.
The night started with Caldwell taking an early 8-2 lead. Rockdale, led by sophomore Saige Robertson and freshman Ciara Miles fought back with a pair of jumpers to make the score 9-6. The Lady Tigers trailed 13-8 to an energetic Lady Hornet team at the close of the first quarter.
The teams went back-and-forth at the beginning of the second with CHS leading 16-15 with five minutes to go in the half. At this time, Caldwell
At this time, Caldwell began to full-court press and went on a 13-0 run in less than four minutes of play and extended their lead to 38-22 at halftime.
The remainder of the game was balanced, but RHS was unable to make up ground on Caldwell led by sopho-more guard Jae Mathis, who scored 30 points.

RHS head coach Meridith Caffey was very positive about her team’s effort with the circumstances going into Friday night’s game.
“It was also a great chance for girls to see a lot of playing time in a varsity basketball game,” Caffey said. “Girls like Alyssa Thompson and McKena Lopez, they did good out there.”

Beckwith was in quarantine and not able to be at the celebration. However, she did get to participate via FaceTime.
“It was sad that (Miah) couldn’t be there,” Caffey said. “But it was really nice that despite the situation that she could still be a part of senior night.”
RHS fell to co-district champion Lexington 40-26. Miles led with 10 while

The Lady Tigers ended district with a record of 2-8, earning their pair of wins over Florence on Dec. 18 (38-18) at home and Jan. 19 (50-48), at FHS.
