After simmering under the top spot in the state for weeks, the Thorndale Lady Dogs have joined the Bulldog baseball team atop the state polls.
The 17-1-1 Lady Dogs vaulted to the No. 1 ranking in this week’s Class 2A Texas Girls Coaches Association poll after several weeks at No. 2.
Thorndale celebrated its new status with a 12-2 victory over Granger to go 10-0 in district play.
Four hits from Jayci Martinka helped lead Thorndale past Granger.
Martinka doubled in the fi rst, singled in the second, singled in the third, and doubled in the fi fth.
In the first inning, Thorndale got its offense started as Riley White grounded out, scoring one run.
The Lady Dogs tallied fi ve runs in the sixth inning led by Caitlin Garcia, White, and Madison Kelm, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
Riley White was the winning pitcher for Thorndale, lasting five innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out 10 and walking one.
Bailey White threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Thorndale collected 12 hits and also ran wild on the basepaths, swiping 13 bases.
Tuesday night, the Lady Dogs crushed the ball and bashed Bremond 15-0.
The Lady Dogs racked up 14 hits and ended the game after three innings.
Madison Kelm and Caitlin Garcia both went yard against the Tigers. Martinka, Betak, R. White, Bigan, Flores, and B White each had two hits for the night.
Riley White got the win in the circle with eight strikeouts, no walks, and allowed just one hit.
Bulldogs
Thorndale (17-3-1 overall , 7-0 in district) maintained its top spot in the state with a pair of big league wins.
Logan Fisher threw a gem on Tuesday for Thorndale, allowing zero runs and besting Bremond by a score of 10-0
The Bulldogs secured the victory thanks to six runs in the sixth inning.
The big inning was boosted to singles by Mason Fisher and Fisher, a triple by Coleby Driver, and by Lane Niemtschk.
Fisher allowed three hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out eight and walking zero.
Thorndale racked up 13 hits on the day. Ashton Schaefer, Fisher, Driver, and Fisher each had multiple hits.
Fisher and Schaefer each managed three hits to lead Thorndale.
Ty Kovar didn’t allow a single run as Thorndale defeated Milano 23-0 on Thursday. Kovar allowed just one hit.
Scott Guzman collected four hits in five at-bats to help lead Thorndale.
Guzman singled in the second, singled in the second, singled in the third, and tripled in the fourth.
In the first inning, the Bulldogs got their offense started as Coleby Driver singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
Thorndale scored 14 runs in the second inning, led by Lane Niemtschk, Guzman, Ashton Albert, Driver, Mason Fisher, and Ashton Schaefer, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
One bright spot for Milano was a single by Starkey in the fi fth inning.
• Kovar allowed one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out fi ve.
• Taylor took the loss for Milano. He allowed five hits and 11 runs over one inning, striking out one.
• Thorndale tallied 14 hits in the game. Guzman, Trey Ortiz, Schaefer, Driver, and Albert all managed multiple hits for the Bulldogs.
Guzman led Thorndale with four hits in five at bats. .
Starkey went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Milano in hits.
