Milano High School graduate Parker Jones placed 13th out of 81 runners at Sunday’s Southland Conference Cross Country Championship in Hammond, LA.

He also helped lead the Stephen F. Austin State University Lumberjacks to a runner-up finish behind meet host Southeastern Louisiana University.

The sophomore runner was also named third team all-conference.

During his senior year, Jones won two gold medals at the UIL Class 2A state championship in the mile and the 3,200-meter run and played a big role in helping Milano win two consecutive state track and field titles in 2018 and 2019. He also won a silver medal in the Class 2A cross country state championship race earlier in that school year.

He is the son of Brad and Angelee Jones of Milano and is currently in the process of earning a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. Following the completion of that degree, he plans to obtain a master’s in athletic training.
