Jeff Miller just can’t hang on to an offensive coordinator.

After losing Brandon Houston, who took the head coaching job in Buffalo three weeks ago, Miller named long-time assistant Chris Joslin as his new OC.

However, Joslin was named the new head coach at Coahoma on Tuesday.

Joslin, who has never been a head coach, was a junior high coach here, but was Miller’s offensive coordinator when he was at Jacksboro and was also offensive coordinator at Big Spring.

Joslin was also the Tigers’ golf coach.

Coahoma was 7-4 last season but head coach Fred Dietz resigned with a 14-17 record.

Coahoma is a Class 3A school and is located in west Texas near Big Spring.

Miller isn’t sure at this point if he will promote another staff member to offensive coordinator or try to hire someone from the outside.

Miller also announced he has hired Meredith Caffey as Rockdale’s new girls basketball coach.

Caffey replaces Charlie Hall who is stepping down as head coach after three years, but will remain on the Tigers coaching staff.

“We had some really quality applications, but felt like Meredith really stood out and had experience at some really great basketball schools—especially Nazareth,” Miller said.

Caffey, 35, was the head girls coach at Clyde in 2017 and was previously the head coach at Crosbyton and Winters and was an assistant at basketball power Nazareth for six years.

Caffey attended Sul Ross and was a four-year track letterman and named the female track athlete of the year.

Caffey will inherit a team that won 22 games last season, but missed the playoffs after star player Frances King was injured late in the season. King has graduated.

Miller is still looking to replace Tiger baseball coach Jacob McMurtry who resigned after the season.

He is also aiming to hire another assistant at either the high school or junior high level.
