The Rockdale junior varsity football team blocked a game-winning field goal to beat the Troy Trojans 8-7 for their second victory in District 10-3A play and their first in the new Tiger Stadium on Thursday evening.
The Tigers got behind early when Troy went up 7-0 in the first quarter. Before the end of the second quarter, Rock-dale scored on a 15-yard touchdown run by Chris Vargas. The Tigers took the lead when Aaron Dansby got the two-point conversion on a pass from quarterback Jose Young.
After a scoreless, defensive effort by both teams in the second half, the game came down to the final play.
In the fourth quarter, the Trojans drove the ball to field goal range, and Vargas blocked the potential game winning field goal as time ran out.
The Tigers are 3-1-2 overall. Offensive standouts in the game were: Jose Young, Hagen Land, Bryce Miller and Alex Ellison, according to Coach David Monroe.
Defense standouts were: Vargas, Keymani Hamilton and Christian Briggs.
Rockdale, 3-1-2 for the season, will host the Cameron Yoemen 6:30 p.m. on Thursday in Tiger Stadium.
