Milano native Kyle King’s career with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor came to an end as the Crusaders fell to North Central 49-14 in the Division III national semi-finals on Saturday in Naperville, Illinois.

Despite falling short of the Stagg Bowl (Division III national championship game), where King and the Cru captured a title over the Cardinals last winter, King finishes his purple-and-gold career with countless accolades.

He was a Gagliardi Trophy finalist this season, which is awarded to the top Division III football player in the country and ended the year with 3,676 passing yards and 42 passing touchdowns.

“This program has changed my life,” King wrote on Twitter Monday. “It has given a small town kid from Milano an opportunity to see the United States and play the game I love.”

“Most importantly, it has given me brothers that I will have for a lifetime,” he added. “I am forever indebted to UMHB, my coaches and my teammates.”

A Class of 2018 MHS graduate, King was an allstate selection in football and was an all-region basketball player during his time as an Eagle. He was also a member of MHS boys’ track team, which won a state championship during his senior year.

His parents are Wendy and Alvie King of Milano.
