While many teams across the state are gearing up for their bi-district playoff game, the Thorn-dale volleyball team is waiting to see whether they face Refugio or Shiner.
The Lady Bulldogs are the only Class 2A school in Uejion IY to have a first round bye due to District 26-2A only having three Class 2A schools.
“Waiting is definitely hard,” said Angel Raines, THS volleyball coach. “The only really nice thing about a bye is giving the girls a chance to heal up minor things.
“We are very impatient and ready to play so having to wait even longer is a big bummer. The girls just want to get on the court and reach the goals they have set for this set this season.”
AREA MATCHUP– Thorndale plays Shiner, who upset District 28-2A runner-up Refugio 25-23, 25-19, 25-20 in their bi-district playoff game later this week.
“Shiner is very athletic,” Raines said. “They have played a lof of high-quality team and have the ability to beat us if we don’t play up to our level.
“There is no more playing around and hoping that we can beat people on our off and lazy days.”
Thorndale plays Refugio on Thursday in San Marcos. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
TEAGUE–On Friday, Thorndale came back to beat Teague, the winner of District 20-3A, 19-25, 25-16, 28-26, 25-21, in a warm-up match at THS Gymnasium.
“I ’m always happy with a win,” Raines said. “But to fijht back from a bi deficit was awesome.
“Teague also showed us things that need to be improved before we play in area later this week.”
The Lady Bulldogs take on the Lady Commanches at the Smithville High School Gym. The Address is 285 TX -95 Smithville, Texas 78957.
