Things looked bleak for the Thorndale Lady Bulldog basketball team going into the fourth quarter as they trailed 32-30 against rival Thrall.
Much of the game they had trouble getting a shot off against the Tigerette defense that featured six-foot-tall Chandra Reed, Addison Leschber and Shelby Grisham.
However, momentum changed for THS when freshmen Bailee Baker came into the game, making Grisham’s task of bringing the ball up the court a difficult one. This led to multiple turnovers and three charges called on Grisham while Baker guarded her.
As a result, the game saw an eight-point swing and the Lady Bulldogs improved to 2-0 in district, leaving Williamson County with a 47-41 win over Thrall.
Thorndale started off the game hot, leading early 8-2, but Thrall bounced back to take an 11-10 lead.
Later in the second, the Lady Bulldogs were able to get back in front 19-15, but Thrall’s McKenna Knapek hit a three-pointer with five seconds left, making the game 19-18 at the half.
Makayla Lafferty led with 16, Savanna Taylor had 15, Kyndal Robinson had six and Riley Calk had five.
This was the 11th consecutive time Thorndale has defeated Thrall. Their last loss to the Tigerettes was on Jan. 28, 2014.
