Once Thorndale’s Bailee Baker hit a three to tie the game 3-3 early in the first quarter, Thrall would never lead again in the Lady Bulldogs 58-27 victory in Williamson County on Friday night.

Makayla Lafferty led THS with 20 points, while Baker and fellow sophomore Kyndal Robinson also ended the night in double-digits with 11 and 10 points.

BULLDOGS—The boys’ lost their first district contest when rival Thrall defeated them for the first time since 2013, 45-39.

“I don’t want to take anything away from Thrall because they played their tails off, but it was a perfect storm,” said Michael Williams, Bulldog head coach. “We couldn’t make a shot and we had three of are starters foul out.”

Williams was also complimentary about his team.

“We played pretty clean, we just had a hard time scoring.”

THS was led by Branson McCoy with 11 points. Blake Roberts and Cayden Nicholson each had eight.

This was also the first time Williams had played in the rivalry game.

“It was different with not a full crowd but the rivalry was definitely there.” he said. “When you come to Thrall, you better be prepared.”

LAST WEEK—Three days before, the Bulldogs played Holland at home, beating the Hornets, 47-46. The girls beat Holland 43-27.

COMING UP—Bot h THS teams faced Granger after press time Tuesday and travel to Hearne Friday. The Eagles are the 22nd-ranked team in Class 2A and 6-6 as of press time.

Williams said the Eagles have faced many tough 3A and 4A opponents this season, and that their record isn’t indicative of how good they are.

Tip-off for the girls is at 6:15 p.m., with the boys’ game right scheduled for 7:30.
