In similar fashion to last year, Lady Dog softball opened the post-season this past Thursday with a decisive victory over Harper in the first round.
This time, they beat the Lady Horns, 16-6 in Salado. The win comes after ending their final two district games with losses.
“We’ve had base runners on, we just never came up with hits while we had runners in scoring position,” THS coach Lance Betak said. “I think two different times today, we had runners on second and third and we got a hit to score two runs.
“That allowed us to have innings where we scored multiple runs. Getting hits with runners on base is so important.”
THS junior Natalie Garcia led at the plate, slapping two hits and punching in four runs for the Lady Dogs.
Kelsey Kovar led Thorndale with three hits while Emilee Baker and Reagyn Trahan both had two. Kassidy Eubanks, Raeghan Carlson and Bailee Baker each had one hit.
Karis Ginn pitched 4.2 innings for THS, striking out six and allowing one hit.
PLAYOFFS—Lady Dog softball plays next at Caldwell High School in a series with Normangee.
First pitch for game one between Thorndale and the Lady Panthers is scheduled for 6 p.m., Friday.
Game two will start at 2 p.m. Saturday. If necessary, game three will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of game two.
BULLDOGS—Like the Lady Dogs, Bulldog baseball will also be in Caldwell this weekend, taking on their first round opponent Ganado.
The District 27-2A champions hit the diamond to face GHS for game one at 1 p.m. Friday.
First pitch for game two is scheduled for noon and game three will take place 30 minutes after the end of game two, if it needs to be played.
LAST WEEK—To help prepare for the upcoming post-season, THS went to Caldwell this past Friday where they fell 9-8 to the Hornets, who placed third in District 19-3A.
