Thorndale’s first meeting with Thrall was a back-and-forth battle but came down to the final two innings when the Lady Dogs took down the Tigerettes in Milam County last Thursday.

In the fifth, Thorndale trailed 11-9 but saw a surge with seven runs scored fueled by hits from Natalie Garcia, Kelsey Kovar, Cassidy Eubanks and Bailee Baker. Baker’s older sister Emilee also hit a home run to give them a 12-11 lead.

Eubanks held the lead from the circle with one hit allowed in the final two innings, giving the Lady Dogs their second district win and a victory over a team ranked 18th by the Texas Girls Coaches Association earlier this month.

“Overall, I’m very proud of us to hang in there during a roller coaster game that was back and forth the entire time,” said Coach Lance Betak. “We played good, tight defense when we had to have it (and) that was awesome.”

Betak also had compliments about his pitchers Eubanks and Dori Ginn.

“Cassidy came in cold,” he said. “I kept trying to warm her but she was on base every time because we were scoring so many runs, which is great but we couldn’t ever warm her up and I don’t want anybody to run for her because she’s fast.”

Eubanks threw three innings with one strikeout while Ginn struck out one in four innings pitched.

Sophomore Raeghan Carlson also hit her eighth home run of the season in the first inning and was intentionally walked in three of her five at-bats.
