LEXINGTON—The No. 1 Thorndale Lady Dogs jump started their season by blasting host Lexington in its own tournament in the championship game, 19-7.
Thorndale is coming off a record breaking year which saw the Lady Dogs post a school-record 26 wins and reach the regional quarterfinals
Even though Thorndale (5-1) gave up six runs in the fifth inning, they still endured in the finale.
The Lady Dogs collected 19 hits and Lexington had eight in the high-scoring affair.
In the first inning, Thorndale got their offense started when Bailey White singled on an 0-2 count, scoring one run.
Thorndale posted 10 runs in the fourth inning. The rally was led by doubles by Jayci Paulsen, Ashleigh Paulsen, Jayci Martinka, and Riley White, singles by Madison Flores, Amber Dee, and Natalie Deary, and a groundout by Brookelyn Bankston.
White earned the win for the Lady Dogs and allowed eight hits and seven runs over five innings, striking out six and walking one.
Thorndale tallied 19 hits. Madison Kelm, Flores, Paulsen, Martinka, and Allison Betak each had multiple hits for the Lady Dogs.
The Lady Dogs defeated Burton 18-1 as two pitchers didn’t allow a single hit.
Martinka led the Lady Dogs to victory by driving in five runs. She went 3-for-3 at the plate. Martinka drove in runs on a walk in the first, a double in the second, and a single in the third.
In the first inning, the Lady Dogs got their offense started. Riley White drove in one when she singled. Bailey White was on the mound for the Lady Dogs. She went three innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out seven and walking zero. Dee finished up the game on the mound for the Lady Dogs and ended the game with a K.
Thorndale had eight hits in the game. Martinka, White, White, Paulsen, and Newton all recorded hits.
The Lady Dogs defeated Class 4A Navasota 7-2 as White got the start and lasted four innings, allowing one hit and two runs while striking out nine.
The Lady Dogs totaled seven hits in the game. Bailey and Riley White both had two hits, Amber Dee, Lauren Newton, & Alison Betak each had a hit.
Thorndale fell to Lexington 5-1 as Martinka and Dee had the only hits of the game for the Lady Dogs.
White took the loss for Thorndale and Kylie Hobbs records the win for Lexington.
The Lady Dogs toppled Anderson 3-0 as Riley White tossed a gem, allowing no runs.
She lasted four innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out seven and walking zero.
The score was 0-0 going into the fourth inning when Deary crushes a two- run double to put the Lady Dogs in the lead. Deary, R. White, and Martinka each managed one hit to lead Thorndale.
Thorndale crushed Class 6A Austin Travis 22-0 fueled by Riley White’s no-hitter.
White recorded eight strikeouts during the three inning game.
Kelm led the charge offensively with two hits and four RBIs.
Riley White and Madison Flores both had two hits and three RBIs apiece. Jayci Paulsen had a hit and three runs batted in. Paulsen and Martinka each had a hit and two RBIs each.
