Lady Dog sluggers had an eventful weekend at the Brenham Tournament.

They started out Thursday in Navasota due to low field availability and first faced Montgomery’s Lake Creek and although they lost 14-1, sophomore Raeghan Carlson homered in the second inning.

Despite being run-ruled in that opener, they bounced back with a 12-1 win over Navasota on their own turf.

The THS bats came to life with dingers from Kelsey Kovar in the first and second inning. Emilee Baker also homered in the second and Carlson in the fifth.

Carlson has five home runs in 13 games and needs one more to tie her 2020 record of six which she hit in 18 varsity games.

Friday and Saturday also brought challenging opponents for Thorndale, with the Lady Bulldogs beating Class 5A Elgin 5-3 Friday and Class 6A Cypress Lakes, 19-4 and Class 3A playoff perennial Lexington 12-1 on Saturday.

The team’s only loss those two days was a 9-2 loss to Class 5A Brenham on Friday in a game they played immediately after their win over Elgin.

Coach Lance Betak said his team hit much better against pitching that was just as good as they faced in La Grange the week before.

Betak also said they changed a lot of things on defense and played with much more confidence.

THIS WEEK—Thorndale resumed district play Tuesday in Bartlett after press time. They host rival Thrall Thursday.

Until this past week, the Tigerettes were ranked among the top 25 teams in Class 2A by Texas Girls Coaches Association.

Thrall is 7-3 this season with their only losses being to Round Rock-Stony Point, Caldwell and Granger, who beat them last week 11-8 in their district opener.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
