The Milano Lady Eagles went into Christmas break on a three-game winning streak, beating Mumford 46-35 last Friday.

The Lady Eagles never relinquished the lead they won early and beat Mumford 46-35 to improve their District 25-2A District record to 3-1.

The Robertson sisters, McKenna and Sterling led Milano in scoring with 18 and 10 points. Faith Walton and Hannah Batten both had five points as well.

Last Tuesday, Milano defeated Granger 45-27. The Lady Eagles got off to a fast start, leading 25-10 at halftime and holding their lead for the remainder of the game. Kristian Taylor was top scorer with 15 points. McKenna was also a key contributor with nine points.

“After we take a couple of days off, we’ll watch some film and find areas where we can improve,” said Head Coach Jordan Merkord. “We’ll focus on those things in our non-district play before we go back into district.”

The Lady Eagles play their next game 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 29 at home against Somerville.

Boys – The Milano Eagles went into Christmas break with a 63-48 loss to Mumford. The Eagles ended the first quarter with a 9-7 lead but were outscored 24-6 to go into halftime trailing 31-15. Milano out scored their Robertson County opponents 33-32, but it wasn’t enough to makeup for the second quarter run by the Mustangs.

Last Tuesday, the Eagles started with a 60-58 victory over Granger. The Milam County squad trailed by one at the close of the first quarter and outscored the Lions 20-8 in the second to lead 34-23 at halftime.

Despite the double-digit lead, Granger kept the Eagles close with a score of 44-42 going into the fourth. Both teams went head-to-head in the final quarter with each scoring 16, but the Eagles held on to win by two.

Christian Thurman led Milano with 30 points, and six assists. Freshman point guard Layne Telg had nine points, and Arthur Soto also had seven points.

The Eagles play their next game on Friday, Dec. 28 against the Somerville Yeguas in a tournament hosted by Somerville. The tip-off wasn’t made available as of press time.
