Early Friday evening, the Milano girls basketball team got their second win of the season, defeating non-district opponent Bartlett 25-23 on the road.
It looked like the Lassies had the game early on, leading after the opening quarter and going up 11-6 at the close of the first half.
In the third, MHS tied the game thanks to five points from Bethanie Compton, three from McKenna Robertson and a two by senior Kristian Taylor after outscoring the home team 10-5 to make the game 16-16 going into the fourth.
In the final quarter, Milano took the game with five points from Robertson and clutch free throws from Taylor and freshman Laynie Rose.
MHS was boosted by their efforts on the boards with 37 team rebounds.
Kaitlyn Telg led the team with 10, Robertson had nine and Taylor had eight.
The Lady Eagles also had 18 total steals with Compton having six and Taylor with five.
LAST WEEK–Earlier in the week, MHS fell to neighbor Mumford 32-28 at home.
Milano led 25-21 going into the fourth quarter, but were outscored by the Lady Mustangs 11-3.
This was after Milano fought back from a 10-2 deficit at the close of the first quarter, outscoring the other MHS 23-11 in the second and third quarters.
Robertson led Milano with eight, Compton had seven and Telg and Taylor had six and five points respectively.
THIS WEEK–MHS played in Hearne on Tuesday after press time.
They host Milam County rival Thorndale at the Geneva Paceley Gym on Friday.
The Lady Bulldogs are undefeated in district play.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
EAGLES–Last Friday, the boys held their own against a 13-6 Somerville squad, losing 31-23.
Weston Avrett led the Eagles with nine points, Jayce Todd and Cordell Sprears each had three, and Ethen Gordon, Drew Demeritt, Hayden Weaver and Layne Telg had two points apiece.
LAST WEEK–Three days prior, the Eagles were overmatched by a tough Mumford squad, falling 75-33.
THIS WEEK–Milano faced Hearne, the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches fourth-ranked team in Class 2A on the road Tuesday after press time.
They play ninth-ranked Thorndale on Friday.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., at the Geneva Paceley Gym.
