In a non-district game during Christmas break, the Milano Lady Eagles edged former District 25-2A foe Bartlett 44-38.
MHS led 11-5 after the opening quarter, but the Lassies closed in on Milano, narrowing their lead to 21-19 at halftime. Bartlett kept it within two points ending the third down 30-28, but Milano outscored the Lassies in the fourth to win 44-38.
Sterling Robertson led the Lady Eagles with 13 points, and Hannah Batten had 11. Abby Miller had seven points and Kristian Taylor and McKenna Robertson both had four apiece.
Milano also played North Zulch on Wednesday and lost 53-42. Robertson led with 14.
Milano is 10-13 with a 3-1 record in District 25-2A. They played Hearne on Tuesday, and face Thorndale, ranked 15th by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
Tip-off is 6 p.m., Friday at the Bulldog Gymnasium.
Eagles – The Milano boy’s team fell flat in their 64-33 loss to Flatonia.
“I believe we are capable of great things,” said Kyle Edwards, MHS boy’s head basketball coach. “But against Flatonia, we lost sight of that.”
The Eagles were down 17-13 at the close of the opening quarter. Flatonia, 14-7 overall, outscored MHS 47-20 to win the game.
Arthur Soto led the Eagles with 10 points. Cordel Spears, Hayden Weaver, Layne Telg each scored five points.
The Eagles played TABC’s 14th ranked Hearne on Tuesday and face the 19th ranked Thorndale Bulldogs at 7:15 p.m., Friday.
