GIDDINGS—Milano had trouble finding its range all evening and could not overcome its shooting woes and that can be problematic, especially in a playoff atmosphere where it’s one-and-done.
The Lady Eagles faced an early double-digit deficit and fell to Somerville 52-31 Tuesday night in the Class 2A, Region IV bi-district round of the playoffs.
Milano closes out the season at 11-18, after placing third in District 25-2A.
Somerville, 18-14, second to Snook in District 26-2A, moves forward to take on San Saba in the area round.
The Lady Eagles connected on just eight-of 50 shots for 16 percent shooting.
They were two-for-26 in the second and third quarters combined.
They were 3-for-23 from behind the three-point arc.
Playing in her final game, senior guard Kelaria King led Milano with 14 points and was the lone Lady Eagle in double figures.
Emilie Compton followed with eight, all in the fourth quarter. Gabby Kovasovic paced Somerville with 18 points.
The second quarter doomed Milano as Somerville exploded for 23 points and the Lady Eagles managed just one field goal in 13 tries—King’s three-point bomb from deep in the left corner.
Somerville outscored Milano 12-4 the rest of the way for a 35-14 halftime lead.
Milano loses just two seniors, King and Compton.
