In their second district game and first one on the road, the Milano Lady Eagles beat the Buckholts Lady Badgers 25-9, 25-5, 25-6 on Saturday, improving their record to 14-8 on the season and 2-0 in district play.
The Lady Eagles three-set sweep featured stellar play in the front from senior Sterling Robertson, who had 12 kills, and freshman McKenna Robertson, with six kills. Junior Abby Miller also had three kills.
Throughout the match, the Lady Eagles were able to put themselves in a good position to score and contest everything the Lady Badgers got over the net. Junior Danni Shaw had 14 assists and seven digs, and senior Laynie Bastow had 12 assists and three digs.
Three days prior, the Lady Eagles had another sweep over the Holland Lady Hornets, 25-16, 25-14, 25-21 Tuesday, Sept. 4, at home. Milano was again, powered at the net by the Robertson sisters. Senior Sterling, had 12 kills and 8 digs, and freshman sibling McKenna, had 7 kills. The Lady Eagles were able to score with a lot of help from Junior Danni Shaw, who had 10 assists, and senior Layne Bastow, with 6 assists.
The Lady Eagles will have played a match at home against Thrall on Tuesday, Sept. 11. Read next week’s issue for final results.
Mumford–Milano will play its next match at home against the Mumford Lady Mustangs. The Lady Mustangs are currently 2-0 with wins over Bartlett and Rosebud-Lott. Mumford is a young team with only two seniors on their roster, but is expected to be a tough team in district 25-2A, according to Lady Eagles head coach Wendy King. The game starts at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, in Milano.
