On Thursday evening, the young Milano High School softball team proved they could hang with some of the top teams in the state when they fell to Granger, the 25th-ranked team in Class 2A, 4-3 in a neck-and-neck contest on the road.

Neither team got a runner on base until freshman Toni Meyer got an inside-thepark home run to lead off the top of the second, making it 1-0. Granger tied the game in the third after a pair of walks and an infield error brought in Abby Carpenter to tie the game at one.

MHS retaliated in the fourth after RBIhits from Karyme Santana and Zoe Clore brought in runners to make it 3-1. However, the Lady Lions got five of their six hits in the final three innings and scored three more runs including a game-winning single by Amaya Simien in the bottom of the seventh.

Meyer led from the mound with nine strikeouts in six full innings pitched while allowing six hits and walking three. In addition to hits from Meyer, Santana and Clore, sophomores Natalie Compton and Aaliyah McBrewer also had hits with singles in the fifth and sixth innings.

Milano lost to Granger 11-0 when they hosted the Lady Lions on March 9.
