Fourth-year head coach Meredith Caffey and the Lady Tigers were scheduled to face Somerville this past Friday evening.
However, the game ended up not being played after SHS senior Ah’Mari Mouton was killed in a car accident involving a moving train around 7:50 that morning according to KWTX in Waco.
The Rockdale ISD athletic program and coach Caffey said via Facebook, Somerville ISD is in their thoughts at this time.
RHS Class of 2015 graduate and head volleyball coach Morgan Laughlin coached Mouton three years ago when she was a freshmen at Somerville and spoke highly of her on Facebook.
Laughlin described her as a kid she’ll never forget and someone who checked in on her all the time after leaving Somerville in the summer of 2019.
“I have never met anyone who could make me laugh so hard,” Laughlin said in a post Friday evening.
LADY TIGERS—Rockdale played on Monday and Tuesday after this week’s deadline of The Rockdale Reporter, with games against Jarrell and Moody.
They play next in front of the home crowd on Tuesday, Nov. 30, against Class 2A Normangee.
RHS also begins tournament play in Snook two days later with from Dec. 2-4. games
Scheduled game times for the Snook Tournament will posted on Reporter social media when made available
Tip-off for Tuesday’s game is scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
