In their first powerlifting meet of the season, the Rockdale Lady Tigers finished second out of eight teams with 34 points behind first place Smithville, who had 46 points.

“In my five years at Rockdale, this is the best meet that our girls have had,” said Jacob Campsey, Rockdale High School head powerlifting coach.

The Lady Tigers had three lifters win their respective weight class, including Jesenia Navarro in the 114-pound weight class with a lifting total of 485 pounds, Mackenzie Musto in the 132-pound weight class with a total of 650 and Macy Knesek in the 148-pound weight class for a total of 630.

Tasha San Migel placed second in the 105-pound weight class with 400 and Whitley Boyd placed third in the 165-pound class with 615.

Haven Jimenez placed third with 510 and Lisbett Boussart placed fourth with 435 in the 181-pound class.

Autumn Montelongo, a regional qualifier from last season, scratched during the squat, and did not place.

The Lady Tigers will lift Thursday at the Lampasas Meet.

Musto, Knesek and Boyd will all be at a cheerleading competition and will not lift in Lampasas, according to Coach Campsey,

Tigers – The Tigers finished seventh with 11 points.

“It went about how a first meet normally goes,” Campsey said. “Overall, the boys need to keep working and focus on technicalities when they’re lifting.

“We had a couple of times where boys racked the weights too early and were disqualified.”

Regional qualifier Jeovanny Navarro led Rock-dale winning the 132-pound weight class with a total of 745. Fellow 2018 qualifier Nathan Jeter placed third in the 114-pound class with 635 total. Bruce Mayfield also scored for RHS with 890 in the 181-pound weight class.

Other Tigers who placed were Nathan Thomas, who was sixth with 645 in the 165-pound class, Gavin Aguilar was sixth with 785 in the 242 weight class, McCade Casas was ninth in the same class as Mayfield with 565, and Alex Ellison, who was 10th with 815 in the 220-pound weight class.

Avery Boundy, Chris Remaley and Hayden Aguilar all scratched during the bench press and did not place.

The Tigers will also lift in Lampasas on Thursday.
