Rockdale’s summer league volleyball team ended their first week of play on a high note defeating Elgin junior varsity 25-8, 25-6 and Mumford 25-16, 25-17.

On Tuesday, the Rock-dale girls defeated Elgin 25-18, 25-22 before beating Elgin JV again 25-21, 25-12. In a rare third match, they beat Snook 25-14, 20-25, 15-11.

They played Mumford and Snook on Tuesday after press time and will close out the summer season on Thursday with three games.

RHS will face Elgin 1 in the main gym at 6:30 p.m., and will play back-to-back in the practice gym against Snook and Mumford JV at 7:30 and 8:30.

TWO-A-DAYS-A week after ending summer league, the Lady Tigers will begin two-a-days at 8 a.m. The girls will practice until 10 a.m., and practice against from noon until 3 p.m.

Two days later on Saturday, Aug. 3, the Rockdale squad will see other competition when they scrimmage at home against Milam County neighbors Milano and Thorndale. The Lady Tigers will face the Lady Eagles at home again three days later on Tuesday, Aug. 6, in their official game before starting tournament play on Thursday, Aug. 8, at the Waco Tournament.

Rockdale lost six seniors, but has five returning varsity players on a team that came with one game of the postseason in 2018.

Their schedule hasn’t been made available to the public.

MILANO--The Milano Lady Eagles will also start tw0-a-days next Thursday.

According to head coach Wendy King, her team will practice from 9-12 and later in the day from 4-6.

Milano won’t play a match outside of Milam County during the first seven days of their first season. After playing their first scrimmages and game in Rockdale, the Lady Eagles begin playing in the Cameron Lady Yoe Tournament on Thursday, Aug. 8 and Saturday, Aug. 10.

They begin District 25-2A play on Tuesday, Sept. 10, when they face the Holland Lady Hornets.

THORNDALE-2018 state-finalists Thorndale start practice as well nex t Thursday.

They start the season with a 7:30 a.m. workout and practice from 11-1 p.m. On Friday, Aug. 2, they have a 7:30 a.m., workout but will have two group practices with junior varsity going from 11-12:15 p.m., and varsity going from 12:45 until 2:15 p.m.

After that, they’ll practice from 8:30-9:30 a.m. and 2:30-4 p.m., on days they don’t have a game. The Lady Bulldogs will play in their first scrimmage on Aug. 3, in Rock-dale with the Lady Tigers and Milano, and play in their first game at Rosebud-Lott on Tuesday, Aug. 6, before playing in the Round Rock Tournament from Aug. 8-10.

The Thorndale Lady Bulldogs kick off their 2019 District 25-2A schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at home against the Granger Lady Lions.
