Early Saturday afternoon, Tigers and Lady Tigers finished their first meet of the season with the girls coming in third and the boys placing fourth.

The Mud, Sweat and Cheers relay, held at Top Tier Training Camp 15 minutes east of Caldwell, is unlike other meets RHS will run at this season where competitors have to run through mud pits and climb bales of hay in order to make it through the race.

“Both groups did really well,” said Cheryl Meuth, RISD cross country coach. “There were some nerves going into the race due to it being the first meet but overall everyone’s improved so much since last year.”

The girls relay team placed third behind District 19-3A competition McGregor and Ft. Bend Christian with a time of 49.37. The boys finished fourth behind McGregor, Ft. Bend Christian and another 19-3A school Franklin with a 41.:16.

RHS has been using a new training program called PAAVO that puts emphasis on daily running, with no days off. As of Tuesday, Rockdale runners are on day 27 of the program.

THIS WEEK—As of press time, Rockdale doesn’t have a meet schedule this week. They next hit the course on Saturday, Sept. 7, when they travel across the County line for the Lexington meet.
