With a team mostly made up of freshmen and sophomores, the Lady Tigers struggled in their first three district games with losses to Cameron, Lexington and Academy.
Tuesday afternoon’s game in Florence was also a loss, but the Lady Tigers held their own in Williamson County.
The Blue-and-Gold led 14-12 in the bottom of the sixth inning until the Lady Buffs were able to capitalize on an error that brought in three runs. FHS scored another three to make it 18-14, which was enough as they shut out Rockdale in their final at-bat of the game.
Leaders for Rockdale were Laylee Lankford and McKena Lopez, who both ended the day with three hits. Jacie Hartley, Jessica Flores and Makaila Jackson were also aggressive at the plate each getting two hits. The Lady Tigers out-performed Florence at the plate, getting 15 hits to their 14. On the base paths, Hartley, Flores and Izabella Delgadillo each stole a base and Lankford had three runs batted in.
Olivia Rubio saw the circle for most of the game, pitching five innings. RHS senior Salome Cardona also pitched for one inning.
THIS WEEK—Rockdale softball has will have the rest of spring break off and will gets back to the diamond on Friday, March 25, in Rogers.
First pitch with the Lady Eagles is scheduled for 6 p.m.
