A young, inexperienced but athletic RHS girls’ soccer team lost 2-0 to Manor New Tech last Friday.
“Right now our biggest obstacle is just learning the game of soccer and how it flows. I’ve already seen a ton of improvement with the girls this season,” said Coach Kaitlin Brinkley. “I would say our biggest strength is their attitude. They are great teammates to each other and are always positive.”
Center Carla Ugalde and striker Jasmin Cervantes led the Lady Tigers in their 4-5-1 formation on Friday night.
“On the offensive side of things we have to get something put together up top to score,” said Brinkley. “Right now we are really good defensively but when we get the ball in the final third of the field we can’t seem to connect.”
Despite dropping to 0-6 in District 26-4A, Brinkley said the team is always improving and getting better.
“One of our main goals as a team is to keep possession of the ball and keep our first touch close and they are improving on that every game and every practice,” Brinkley said. “They are a fun group to be around.”
The Lady Tigers next matchup is against Austin Achieve in Manor, 7 p.m., Friday.
TUESDAY, FEB. 11—“The girls played tough and had to fight through injuries and just couldn’t get anything put together offensively,” said Brinkley, about RHS 6-0 loss to Austin Gateway.
