The Rockdale Lady Tigers finished off their regular season with a 12-3 win over Franklin on Monday evening at the Lady Tiger Softball Field.
The Lady Tigers got an early lead when Mariana Casarez and Haven Jimenez scored on an error in the bottom of the first inning. The Lady Lions fought back in the top of the second when Riley Caldwell hit an RBI-double to make the score 2-1.
RHS slipped away from the Robertson County squad with a mid-game rally scoring two in the third and four in both the fourth and the fifth led by run-scoring hits from Autumn Montelongo, Hannah Rodriguez, Karley Leopold, Andrea Salazar, Tyley Arledge and Jimenez.
“We adjusted at the plate and made sure we sat back on the ball,” said Erin Palmer, RHS softball coach. “We just really hit our stride in the third, fourth and fifth innings. It’s good to see we got over the mid-game hump.”
The Lady Lions scored once in the top of the fourth and again in the sixth but Rockdale would hold on to win 12-3.
RHS was led at the plate by Casarez with three hits. Jimenez, Leopold, Rodriguez and Montelongo each had two and Salazar, Arledge, Macy Knesek and Ryleigh Eanes all had one.
Leopold earned the win with four strikeouts in seven innings in her final game at the circle on Lady Tiger Softball Field.
“This was my first class I got to see all the way through and I wanted the win for them more than anything and we got that,” Palmer said. “Throughout the season, I told our girls to have a ‘why’. With senior night we had our ‘why’.”
PLAYOFFS – The Lady Tigers are Tied with Lexington at 6-8 for the final playoff spot in District 19-3A. The two teams will meet for a third time this season on Thursday in Cameron to see which team will make it to the post-season.
“We’re going to have to hit. We can’t give them an opportunity to hang around,” Palmer said. “We’ll have to show them who the better team is stay tight on defense.”
The Lady Tigers were run-ruled by the Lady Eagles 12-2 in their first match-up in March. They got revenge later that month with a 9-2 victory at home.
First pitch is scheduled at 6:30 p.m., at Mark Humble Field.
