The Lady Tigers lost their first 3A III 19 district match of the season to the Lexington Lady Eagles 23-25, 22-25, 25-14, 18-25.

“We just didn’t connect as a team on Friday, and it showed,” said Jennifer Keen, Rockdale High School Head Volleyball Coach. “ We have to be consistent from start to finish.”

The Lady Tigers, who dropped to 3-1 in district behind Troy, 3-0, were lead by senior Reese Weise, who had all 30 assists on the court.

Keen said the team did well when they were able to get Weise the ball.

At the net, senior Kaylee Criswell had 15 kills, along with seniors Lyndsey Kolar and Ryanne Young. Kolar had 11 kills, and Young had seven.

“When were able to get passes to Reese, she was able to set up Kaylee, and connected with the ball really well in the first half of the match,” said Keen.

Other key defensive players on Friday were Reyna Gonzalez and Payton Miller with 13 digs each and Emily Depine with eight.

“Hopefully, we can regain our focus to get back on track for this week’s games,” said Keen.

Earlier in the week, the Lady Tigers defeated the Cameron Lady Yoe in a tense and emotion packed five set match. RHS won 15-25, 25-23, 25-14, 20-25, 18-16 at Cameron Yoe gym on Tuesday, Sept.

11.

“This was a great match to watch, but one that gives a coach gray hairs,” she said.

The Lady Tigers were led at the net by Kolar and Criswell, who both had 16 kills and Young had nine. Weise had 46 assists, and Gonzales had 22 digs. Depine and Miller both had at least 10 kills in the Lady Tiger victory.

Rockdale will have played McGregor at home on Tuesday, Sept. 18. Read the Reporter for details on the game.

Their next matches are scheduled for 4 p.m., Friday at Little River-Academy. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Rockdale, but was switched due to Academy homecoming. The Lady Tigers will travel to Troy on Tuesday, Sept. 25.

Junior Varsity

vs. Lexington

JV1 lost their match to Lexington 17-25,25-19,21-25. Keen said Mariana Casarez was a key player in their match against the Lady Eagles.

“She hustled and made great plays,” said Keen. “But we still fell short.”

JV2 beat Lexington 21-25, 25-15, 25-20. Solarme Cardona and Justiss Mayberry lead the way in the Lady Tigers victory.

“They continue to make other teams struggle,” said Keen.

vs. Cameron

JV1 defeated the Lady Yoe 25-20, 25-17. Keen said that Ally Towns and Averie Hobbs did a great job at the net. She also added the Lady Tigers’ all-around play was what led to the shutout in Cameron.

“Our passing looked great,” said Keen. “And our setters did an excellent job of utilizing our hitters.

JV2 defeated the Lady Yoe 21-25,26-24,27-25, after losing to them in tournament play just a couple of weeks earlier.

“I’m so proud of these girls,” said Keen. “They pulled together and got their win tonight.”
