It all came down to the final minutes in Rockdale’s 57-50 loss to Cameron, where the Lady Yoe pulled away towards the end.
“It was back and forth, peaks and valleys. Our goal was to come out a lot stronger than we did the first game we had with Camer on,” said Lady Tiger head coach Meredith Caffey. “And we did that.”
“The bad part is that we got ice cold and couldn’t hit anything. They would get the rebound and they were snowbirding, the thing we were trying to stop. We did a better job of preventing it, but at the end of the day we lost by seven points,” Caffey said.
RHS came out strong with an 11-2 run fueled by a pair of baskets from Julie Bartsch and D’Erika Hurd with a three-point play from Saige Robertson in the first two-and-a-half minutes of play and ultimately went into halftime up 28-21.
Things changed in the third when Cameron battled back to make it a one-possession game before scoring a few quick points at the end of the quarter to lead 43-35.
The Lady Yoe held on to win.
Miah Beckwith led with 13 while Bartsch 12. Hurd also ended the night with double-digits scoring 11.
Last Tuesday, the Lady Tigers beat Florence for the second time this season, beating the Lady Buffs on the road, 50-48.
Ciara Miles led with 18 and Bartsch had 14.
The two competitive games this past week come after a series of tough competitors that made for a rough stretch for the Lady Tigers.
“It really shows a lot about our girls and their ability to get after it.” Caffey said.
