Rockdale’s Lady Tiger basketball team was forced to adapt with starters Saige Robertson and Ciara Miles benched due to injuries

Although they fell short to Burton 47-40 in Saturday afternoon’s game at RHS, their core of Briana Webb, Karli Marburger, Mijah Crawford, T’Niyah Miles, Kyra Miles and Julie Bartsch fought an energetic Lady Panther squad that was also a challenge in the paint.

Reserves Alyssa Thompson and Macy McDaniel also contributed on both sides of the floor.

Bartsch led the Lady Tigers with 20 while Webb and Ciara Miles had 6.

Crawford had 4 and Kyra Miles and Thompson each had 2.

THIS WEEK—With a seven-team district, RHS starts play in 19-3A before the new year, playing Academy on Tuesday after press time and hitting the road Friday to face Florence.

The Lady Buffs have performed well against a schedule that features mostly Class 2A teams in non-district with wins over Johnson City and Holland. Against Class 3A teams, they’ve lost to Lago Vista, 42-23, and Mildred, 67-43. Game time is scheduled for 6:15.

TIGERS-While the girls stayed home, the Tigers went southeast to the Schulenburg Tournament.

The Blue-and-Gold went 1-3 with a victory over a non-varsity opponent but also battled with teams like Yoakum, East Bernard and Class 2A state tournament finalist Schulenburg.

THIS WEEK—The Tigers have a lot of time on the road this week, heading to Smithville Tuesday after press time and traveling east to Iola Friday.

Junior varsity begins at 5, with the varsity starting around 6:15. They will return home next Tuesday,
