It’s been fi ve years since the Rockdale Lady Tigers have entered the state playoffs, but they have put themselves in position to remedy that fact as the second half of district play begins.

The Lady Tigers travel to Jarrell on Thursday, then host Academy on Tuesday.

Rockdale kept pace in district play with a convincing 8-2 victory over Cameron Friday evening at the Softball Complex in part to the performance of Karley Leopold at the plate and on the mound.

The junior righthander Leopold (5-3 on the season with a 2.19 earned run average) cranked her fi rst home run of the season and picked up the win in relief of starter Cailey Knighton with four innings and three strikeouts. Leopold leads the Lady Tigers with 17 runs batted in and eight extra base hits on the season.

Knighton handled the fi rst three innings to perfection, allowing no hits and no runs with four strikeouts.

Macy Knesek went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in, including a triple. The junior leads the Lady Tigers with eight extra base hits on the season along with Leopold. Angela Montelongo (two runs scored) and Emily Depine clubbed doubles for Rock-dale.

The Lady Tigers jumped out 4-0 after producing three runs in the second and continued to produce a steady stream of runs throughout the contest.

After Cameron closed the gap to 4-2 in the top of the third, Rockdale posted single runs in the third and fourth innings and then closed out with a bang with a pair in the sixth.

Rockdale could not solve No. 13 Rogers Monday night on the road in a 9-0 loss. The Lady Tigers fell to Rogers 17-1 in the fi rst round of district play.

Leopold and Depine both starred at the plate again with two singles apiece, while Depine clubbed a double but the Lady Tigers could not produce any runs.

Leopold took the loss this time, in two innings of work. Knighton threw for four innings, allowing seven runs and fi ve base-on-balls as the Lady Tigers committed fi ve errors.

Already leading 3-0, the Lady Eagles piled it on in the fourth with four more runs to seal the victory and had just fi ve hits on the evening.
