Rockdale’s girls basketball team is 1-1 in their first two games after a 38-28 season opening win over St. Dominic Savio and a 37-36 loss to Giddings last Tuesday.

“I think we’re off to a pretty decent start,” said RHS head coach Meredith Caffey. “We have a couple of new girls but they’re playing well.”

Newcomers D’erika Hurd and Silvia Mendoza have seen a lot of playing time for the Lady Tigers but the roster is primarily familiar with starting post Andrea Salazar, guard Payton Miller as well as Amajahnae Valdez, Miah Beck-with and Karli Marburger.

The Lady Tigers have been without Anna Harmon, who averaged 14.1 points last season, due to sickness.

On Thursday, RHS opens tournament play when they travel to Cameron.

“We’ll get the chance to see a lot of different types of teams in a short amount of time,” Caffey said. “It’s nice to get a lot of different looks before district.”

Rockdale plays against Milano at 1 p.m.
