With a 50-33 home victory over McGregor on Friday night, the Lady Tigers find themselves back inside the playoff bubble.
As of Tuesday evening, the Blue-and-Gold have a record of 6-5 in District 19-3A and currently possess the league’s fourth and final playoff spot.
However, with three district games left to be played, their path to the post-season will be a tough one. They have Lorena, who was ranked sixth in the most recent Class 3A poll conducted by the Texas Girls Coaches Association. RHS fell to the Lady Leopards 63-20 earlier this month and were set to play again on Tuesday evening, but the game was postponed due to inclement weather and hasn’t been rescheduled as of press time.
Rockdale also has to face Troy, whom they beat at RHS in a game where senior Mijah Crawford’s 5-0f-7 three-point shooting led the Lady Tigers to a 49-42 win on Jan. 10. The Blue-and-Gold face the Trojanettes on the road Friday at 6:15 p.m.
In their district finale on Feb. 7, Rockdale takes on Rogers, who sits in fifth place with a record of 5-6. The Lady Tigers lost to the Lady Eagles 54-32 on Jan. 13.
Before taking on Rockdale next week, Rogers has a somewhat easier path to their district finale, taking on two teams they beat by double-digits this past month, Lexington (49-27) and McGregor (43-32).
With the Blue-and-Gold being one game ahead of Rogers in the district standings, if they go 1-1 in their two games and Rogers goes 2-0, Rockdale can grab the last playoff spot if they beat the Lady Eagles this upcoming Tuesday. This would give Rockdale an 8-6 record and make Rogers 7-7 to end the season.
Even if the Lady Tigers lose both games, while Rogers goes 2-0 heading into Tuesday night’s game in Rockdale, the Lady Tigers can force a play-in game with Rogers later in the week if they beat them.
The only way Tuesday’s game won’t be meaningful for both teams is if Rockdale goes 2-0 and if Rogers loses at least one game.
LAST WEEK— The Blue-and-Gold took down both of their opponents last week with wins over Lexington (45-26) last Tuesday and McGregor (50-33) this past Friday.
In their battle with the Lady Bulldogs, RHS took over mid-way through the second quarter and never looked back.
The Lady Tiger defense pressured McGregor up and down the court during the second half and the score was never close.
Ciara Miles led the way with a double-double, scoring 18 points and snagging 14 rebounds. The RHS junior also had eight steals and four blocks. Senior Mijah Crawford was also a top performer with 13 points while Saige Robertson scored 10 and grabbed five rebounds.
