Rockdale volleyball is going into the 2019 season on a high note after finishing 9-1 in the Rock-dale Summer Volleyball League.

“They are looking good,” said Kelsey Hudson, Rockdale High School head volleyball coach. “They are excited and they’re ready to compete.”

In their final series of games Thursday, they defeated Snook 25-12, 25-18 before beating them again 25-20, 17-25, 25-18. The Lady Tigers got their first loss in league play to Mumford 23-25, 25-16, 9-15.

On Tuesday, the Lady Tigers defeated Snook 25-23, 18-25, 15-6 and beat Mumford in a close match 25-18, 19-25, 15-12.

Unlike last week, Rock-dale had a junior varsity schedule this week. They went 3-2 beating Snook JV 27-25, 25-10 and losing to Elgin JV 23-25, 17-25 before coming back to beat them 25-16, 25-22 on Thursday evening.

On Tuesday, the junior varsity blew out Snook 25-7, 25-10 and lost to Elgin varsity 16-25, 25-22 15-12.

TWO-A-DAYS—RHS begins practice on Thursday, at 8 a.m. They will go until 10 a.m., before coming back for their second practice that goes from noon until 3 p.m.

Rockdale only has two days worth of practices until they see other competition. On Saturday, Aug. 3, Rockdale will host Milam County neighbors Milano and Thorndale and Coach Hudson’s alma mater Rogers in their first scrimmage of the season.

“We are hoping to see the girls play hard and play together as a team in the first scrimmage,” Hudson said. “We only have two practices before then so me and the other coaches are watching to see who really steps it up during game time.”

The first set of scrimmages are scheduled for 8:30 a.m.

MILANO—The Lady Eagles begin two-a-days on Thursday, with their first practice from 9 a.m.-noon. Later in the day, the girls will come back to the courts for a practice from 4-6 p.m.

MHS will have their first scrimmage after two days worth of practices when they head to Rock-dale on Saturday morning with matches against RHS, Thrall and Rogers. Milano heads back to Rockdale three days later for their first game of the season against the Lady Tigers.

THORNDALE—The Lady Bulldogs start practice on Thursday morning with a workout at 7:30 a.m., and practice from 11-1 p.m.

On Saturday, THS travels across the Williamson County line to scrimmage with the Taylor Lady Ducks. Thorndale will play their first game of the season on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Rosebud-Lott to take on the Lady Cougars.
