In their return to the court after the holidays, the Lady Tigers got trapped up by the Trojanettes defense and lost 58-32.

“(Troy) was committed to the trap and they were able to do it very effectively since they were a taller team,” Head Coach Meredith Caffey said about Friday’s loss. “We tried to do the same thing they did, but they ended up having two breakaway layups pretty quickly, so we had to get out of it. It was a hard loss for us.”

Rockdale trailed 26-2 at the end of the first quarter. They had trouble getting the ball past the half court trap the Trojanettes set up. In the second quarter, Troy stopped trapping and the Lady Tigers outscored the Trojanettes 10-7. Troy led 33-10 at halftime.

Troy reinstated the trap in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Tigers 18-5 to boost their lead to 51-15 going into the final quarter of play. In the fourth, the Lady Tigers outscored Troy 17-7. The final score was 58-32 in Troy’s favor.

Payton Miller led scoring for RHS with nine points. Andrea Salazar contributed eight points and six rebounds. Jena Locklin had eight points and two steals.

RHS, now 2-3 in District 19-3A and 8-6 overall, was without Anna Harmon, who’s averaged more than 17 points per game in district 19-3A play.

“Not having Anna tonight took about thirty points off the board for us,” said Coach Meredith Caffey. “Normally, she scores around twenty and stops about ten points on the defensive end. We missed her, that’s for sure.”

The Lady Tigers played at home against Rogers on Tuesday evening and play Franklin on the road at 6 p.m. Friday.

The Lady Lions are ranked fifth with a 5-0 and 24-1 record, in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll.

The junior varsity didn’t play on Friday due to Troy not having enough players.
