RHS volleyball got their season off to a start this past weekend with two scrimmages two days in a row and head coach Kelsey Hudson likes the way her team performed.

“I felt like we competed well in our scrimmages this past weekend,” she said. “I think each group has a ton of potential and we just have a group of great workers.”

“Now it’s just getting back in the gym to get more touches on the ball and playing with our teammates,” she said.

First, they traveled to Hudson’s alma mater Rogers on Friday to scrimmage with the Lady Eagles, Class 2A Holland and Class 4A Jarrell.

The next morning, they met up with Milam County neighbors Milano and Thorndale and also saw Rogers for the second time in 24 hours.

Although coaches tend to shy away from district competition in scrimmages, Hudson didn’t mind running into Rogers, a team they will see at least twice more this season in district play.

“I don’t think it’s ever a bad thing to play a district opponent in scrimmages because we can evaluate how we stack up against those teams,” she said. “I feel like we played well against Rogers in the scrimmages and are excited to challenge them in district.”
