Rockdale’s Lady Tiger basketball team got their third district win on Tuesday after taking down visiting Cameron 48-28 thanks to a strong second half.

“I just felt like we played well,” said RHS coach Meredith Caffey. “W e always play up for Cameron and I ’m really proud of them.”

The game was close in the beginning with the Lady Yoe staying within reach of Rockdale, who led just 20-16 at halftime.

RHS slipped away in the third, going on an 8-0 run early on and leading 28-20 at the close of the q uarter.

The Lady Tigers turned up the heat even more in the fourth going on a 1:-4 run to start the q uarter before beating Cameron, 48-28.

Andrea S alazar led Rockdale with 11 points. Newcomer Saige Robertson was also a leading scorer with seven and D’Erika Hurd had six.

LAST WEEK–On Friday, the Blue-and-Gold were unable to stop Franklin’s superior shooting in a 55-44 loss to the Lady Lions at the RHS Gymnasium.

Girs Coaches Association’s 25th-ranked team in Class 3A, but FHS built a nine-point lead at halftime and added to that lead in the third before handing Rock-dale their fourth district loss.

ROGERS–Last Tuesday, crucial shots by Rogers late in the second q uarter got in the way of an RHS victory, as they lost 46-42 in a game where they came up short in the final minute.

Payton Miller and Andrea S alazar were the top scorers with nine and Anna Harmon had eight.

THISWEEK–The Lady Tigers look to get revenge against a tough Lexington team.

W hen the two teams met in December, the Lady Eagles outlasted RHS in a game where Ashaunti Cooper took over in the second half to give LHS a 43-26 win.

Since their last meeting, coach Andrew Spencer’s squad has gone 3-1 with wins over Troy, Cameron and Rogers.

W ith the second half of district underway and five games left to play, Caffey stressed how important it is for RHS to steal a win.

“W e’re going to have to knock somebody off to stay in the playoff hunt,” she said. “W e’ll have to get a Lexington or a Troy, something like that has to happen.”

“W e also played well against Academy and Franklin, so who knows, we might drop a bomb and get one of them too.”
