Even though Rockdale took down Taylor on their own home court Friday night in three straight sets, the game was much closer than it seemed as the Lady Tigers won 25-20, 25-18, 25-23.
Going up against a school that has more than double the student enrollment of RHS, the Blueand-Gold had to earn every point and take advantage of missed serves and errors by a deep Lady Duck team.
This experience hasn’t been unique for RHS. Three days before, they took on Bremond, Class 2A’s fifthranked team according to the Texas Girls Coaches Association and two weeks before, they faced Thrall, now ranked seventh in Class 2A.
RHS head coach Kelsey Hudson is feeling good about the way her team has been playing and says confidence is the key to their long-term success.
“I am happy with the way we are playing before district,” Hudson said. “We are playing well together as a team.
“As long as we keep our confidence up, we should definitely compete in our district.”
THIS WEEK—Rockdale faced Jewett-Leon Tuesday evening after press time and opens up district play late Friday afternoon with Lexington, Class 3A’s 22nd-ranked team.
Game time for the varsity begins at 4:30 p.m.
