For the second time this season, the Rockdale High School volleyball team defeated Little River-Academy with a 25-15, 25-16, 25-16 shutout on Tuesday evening at the RHS Gymnasium, getting their fifth district win.

Anna Harmon led the Lady Tigers with nine kills and Haven Jimenez also had a hot game at the net with seven.

Yolianna Castillo was the assist leader with 24 and Emily Depine and Andrea Salazar were the top defenders with 10 a piece.

The blue-and-gold also beat AHS on Friday, Sept. 27, with an 18-25, 25-16, 19-25, 25-14, 15-9 tiebreaker win.

FRIDAY–After a hot second set, the Lady Tigers were unable to get back on track against McGregor losing 21-25, 25-16, 20-25, 18-25 on Friday at the RHS Gymnasium.

Rockdale looked to even out their series with the Lady Bulldogs who they lost to in a tiebreaker 25-21, 22-25, 25-20, 12-25, 5-15 earlier this season.

Emily Depine led Rock-dale with 11 kills and 11 digs and Anna Harmon had 10. Freshman Julie Bartsch also had a good game at the net with seven kills. Yolianna Castillo led with 30 assists and Payton Miller and Averie Hobbs were the top defenders with 20 and 14 digs.

TUESDAY–Rockdale fell in three sets to an undefeated Lexington team that is Class 3A’s ninth-ranked team in the latest Texas Girls Coaches Association poll 25-14, 25-17, 25-13.

Harmon led the Lady Tigers with 10 kills and Castillo had 24 assists. Miller had 14 digs.

THIS WEEK–RHS has two more games on their schedule with Troy coming to town on Friday and Rogers on Tuesday for their district fi nale.

As of press time, the Lady Tigers sit in fifth place behind Rogers, who holds the final playoff spot. Troy and McGregor are tied for second and Lexington sits in first as the only undefeated team.

J V1–Rockdale’s JV1 came out on top over Academy in the third set with a 19-25, 25-16, 25-15 to improve their record to 9-3. According to coach Brian Thomas, Alyzza Davilla and Saige Robertson were the difference makers for RHS with really good hitting that enabled by excellent passing on the back row.

On Friday, they fell to a scrappy McGregor team that took down Rockdale 18-25, 16-25.

Last Tuesday, they had trouble finding their rhythm on the road against Lexington where they lost 17-25, 14-25.

JV1 plays next on Friday following the conclusion of varsity game that begins at 4:30 p.m., against Troy.

They will play in the gym 1 at Rockdale High School.

JV2–Early Tuesday evening, Rockdale’s JV2 had a strong all around game, according to Thomas and defeated Academy for the second time this season 25-15, 25-15.

Like JV1, they are also 9-3 on the season.

On Friday, they came out very strong against McGregor and served very aggressively to win the first set over the Lady Bulldogs 25-15.

In the second set, they faced resistance but were able to get multiple kills towards the end to win the set and match 25-16.

Last week, they got their third loss of the season on the road in Lexington. They started off strong winning the first set, but struggled to recapture that momentum and lost the match in three sets 25-15, 25-18, 22-25.

JV2 plays next on Friday at home against Troy also following the conclusion of the varsity match.

They will play in the old gym.
