In what was their first tournament of the season, the Lady Tiger volleyball team left Franklin with a first place finish after fighting through close matches throughout their two-day stint in Robertson County.

“I am very proud of the fight and leadership we saw this weekend,” coach Kelsey Hudson said. “We beat a lot of really good teams because of our leadership and team chemistry and we are getting better and better each time we play together.”

“Now we have to keep working to prepare for district,” she said.

FRANKLIN—On Thursday, they opened up the tournament with a 25-10, 25-13 win over Hempstead then took down Class 1A perennial power Round Top-Carmine 26-24, 25-15 two hours later.

They ended the day with a loss to Class 4A Anderson-Shiro after the Lady Owls came back in the second game to win two sets in a row 25-19, 19-25, 7-15.

Although they finished Thursday’s pool play in second place, it was hardly a deterrent for Rockdale.

RHS opened Saturday with an upset win over Thrall, 25-22, 22-25, 15-8 and avenged their loss to Anderson-Shiro, winning 25-23, 18-25, 15-11.

This led to the tourney championship, where they beat Bremond 25-21, 25-23.

Of the 15 sets they played in Franklin, seven of them were decided by five points or less and Rockdale won six of the seven.

Hudson commented on why those close sets were wins instead of losses.

“I believe the difference between the wins and losses were our confidence and our relentlessness,” she said. “We did not fold under pressure. We kept our head up when things got tough and kept fighting, playing point by point.”
