Rockdale’s first tournament of the season came down to the final play in a 4-4 game with tourney host, Jarrell. The Lady Tigers won the game on an error after an overthrow at first base led to Jena Locklin scoring the winning run and the first place trophy in Jarrell where they went undefeated with wins also over Austin’s Eastside Memorial 11-3, Bartlett 11-0 and Navarro 12-1.
According to head coach Meghann Infantino, winning the tourney on an error was indicative of how her girls took advantage of every opportunity during their time in Williamson County.
“I am very proud of how coachable my kids were this week,” said coach Meghann Infantino. “(We) made less errors, capitalized on the other team’s errors and worked together as a unit to beat a very good Jarrell team.”
Against the Lady Cougars, McKena Lopez, Hannah Rodriguez and Haven Jimenez each had two hits.
Brande Breithaupt and Jimenez shared the circle with Breithaupt pitching four innings and Jimenez hurling for two. Both struck out three.
THIS WEEK—The Lady Tigers head to Taylor this weekend.
“This week, we are looking to finalize a starting district line-up by seeing who can produce the most singles and be most consistent in the (batter’s) box.” Infantino said.
This is the final tournament the girls play in before starting district play on Tuesday against Cameron at home.
“I think we have a good shot at being a playoff contender this year because our girls truly work as a family.”
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
